The Origin Denomination project was launched by APPCACAO. The goal is to protect native cacao in a region where over 75% of the cacao grown is now a modern hybrid. Only farmers from a specific area who can prove they grow native varieties and produce well-fermented, well-dried cacao of high quality with a distinct flavour profile will be able to sell it under the “Origin Denomination Amazonas.” Original Beans has been supporting this process and is the first buyer of D.O. Amazonas cacao.
